My interest in medicine has always been to provide compassion and respect to patients of various backgrounds with cultural awareness. I have learned throughout my life that each person has their own experiences, values, and perspectives that help them interact with the world and the healthcare system. Consequently, I am able to listen intently, accept diversity, and treat all individuals with dignity and respect regardless of their characteristics. I intend to safely continue my development as a future physician who embraces respect, equity and inclusion as I pursue a medical education.

One of the best features of medical education is diversity. My views and perspectives will be significantly expanded through associating with individuals of different life experiences, as I will be able to learn from them. Cultural awareness is enhanced through exposure to diverse perspectives. As a result, a more equitable medical systems and a better patient’s outcome will be observed. The education and the future of clinical practice for medical students is transformed when they learn alongside peers and faculty from various backgrounds.

The challenges in health care that adversely impact patient’s health can be triggered by factors like socio-cultural contexts, financial status, cultural and language barriers. For this reason, it is essential for physicians to practice empathy and be able to fathom various patients’ perspectives. I can begin to build trust in people by being able to understand their point of view as opposed to judging them. As a result, I can become a physician who understands the whole person and not just a medical problem hence enabling the patients to gain trust in me which will enhance the creation of a patient centred care.

Holistic review rewards skills and traits like resilience, motivation, leadership and service (Gottlieb et al., 2025). This acknowledges the strengths that doctors will have outside of their academic history. I have developed the skills of resilience and adaptability through my life experiences, and I would like them to be part of the medical school's community.

Regardless of background, equity in academic medicine creates a fair environment that allows all researchers, students and faculty to thrive and better serve complex and marginalized communities (Harris et al. 2022). I hope to help create that atmosphere by assisting my peers, allowing for open discussion and respecting others’ opinions. I feel that I can make a difference in creating a community where people can cooperate and get along with each other, as I have the opportunity to share my ideas with others and learn from their experiences.

An inclusive umbrella term used to describe individuals whose gender identity or expression falls outside traditional binary concepts is diversity. In academic medicine, evaluation and perception typically vary by sex hence significantly influencing how physicians are evaluated, diagnosis and treatment are assigned and how symptoms are reported. For instance, higher prevalence and severity of psychological and physical symptoms such as nausea, anxiety, and fatigue could most likely be reported by female patients (Cullen et al. 2023).

Finally, it is my core objective to embrace diversity to reduce health care disparities, improve patient communication and build cultural competence in the medical school community. I am dedicated to gaining experiences from others, to fight discrimination, and become culturally competent to serve diverse populations. I hope to positively influence my future medical school, patients and communities by being empathetic and working collaboratively with individuals of various backgrounds.
